Once weighing in at 240 lbs at the age of 12, Beau realized that he’d rather
be moving other heavy objects around rather than himself. Being teased as
a child produced a fuel to fire Beau’s anger, which matured into a productive
rage, one he learned to take out on the football field.

In
high school being the most athletic on the team, he played positions ranging
from quarterback, center, linebacker to punter. Beau harnessed
his
rage through football and has made it serve him well by adding many athletic
honors to his name:
2003
2nd Team All Conference Honors (Announced 11/18/03)
2003 OCC Special Teams Player of the Year (Announced 12/3/03)
2003 OCC Most Improved Player
2003 OCC Best Fit Defensive Player- Showing the best overall basic skills 40yd
dash, shuttle, Vertical, Bench Press for reps)
Daily Pilot- Orange County Player of
Long
Beach 10/18/03)
In
addition to football, Beau developed a penchant for powerlifting. His
senior year of High School Beau set a meet record by dead lifting 600lbs at a
bodyweight of 200 lbs.
In
college, Beau’s strength training endeavors took a dramatic leap when he
discovered his current strength & speed coach- Scott Brengel. Scott
formulated a program that suited Beau’s sport and training ethic, and as a
result Beau saw his personal strength and speed increased exponentially.

Beau went from running a 5.2 second 40-yd dash at a
bodyweight of 175 lbs to running a 4.6 second 40-yd dash at a
bodyweight of 220 lbs. His power clean went from 225 lbs to 350 lbs and his
bench press went from 225 for 5 reps to 225 for 20+ reps (ALL DRUG-FREE).
In addition to his gym training, Beau found another love- STRONGMAN.

Under the watchful eye
of
Coach Kevin Kinzy, Beau was able to put his intensity into a new form of
training- FREAK FACTORY STYLE. In Beau’s first competition, he
broke the amateur record for the Conan’s Wheel, causing The Freak Factory to bestow
upon him the nickname of BONAN. And most recently, winning the Conan’s
wheel in his second competition in NorCal March 2004 sealed it.
Like most
Freak Factory members, Beau has the ability to go into a controlled and focused
RAGE- where pain acts as a catalyst, causing strength levels to rise
dramatically.

Although
Beau is an excellent student, he drops a few IQ points when he is lifting heavy
objects. We think it may be oxygen deprivation. He recovers every time. The
ability to form a simple sentence becomes an exercise itself
for
Bonan. While Beau has been known to misload a barbell
on
occasion, there is no more ready and able spotter
than he. Trustworthy spotting is vital at the weights these guys are working
with. Fast reflexes, good judgment and strength are essential to prevent serious
injuries or death. Everyone in the Freak Factory knows Beau has their
back.

On May 8th
2004,
Beau Gertz attended the annual JUCO combine. This is a combine held for
all graduating junior college football players with the potential to fill a
spot at the Division 1, 1AA or 2 level. Beau has been preparing for this
combine since his season ended last fall. Week in and week out, Beau has
been increasing his numbers in the gym with this goal in mind, training 3
times a week in the gym gaining strength and utilizing a program designed to
enhance his relative strength and explosive power. In addition to his
specialized strength program he has spent 2 days a week on the track working
on his ability to accelerate, change directions, increasing coordination and
reaching greater heights in his vertical leap. Knowing how important
these training components are in elevating him to the next level, Beau put his
training above all else in his life. His sacrifice ended up with a big
payout at the combine as Beau's performance exceeded all of our expectations. The
Freak Factory is extremely proud of Beau.

Weighting
in at 225lbs, Beau posted a 4.8 40 yd dash going uphill in the
grass. The following Monday Liberty University came back to test Beau on flat
grass and he posted his usual 4.6 sec 40 yd dash. The next test at
the combine was the Pro Shuttle Run. Beau scored big as he posted a 4.03 second
run which ended being the best time in the entire combine with over
a hundred athletes present. The third test was the 225 bench for reps.
Here Beau showed off his upper body strength with an impressive 20 reps.
This effort was the best out of all linebackers, and 2nd best in the entire
combine. In a year and a half, Beau added 15 reps to his 225 lb bench
test. On his final test at the combine, Beau jumped his way
to the 3rd best vertical jump in the entire combine.

We have
received a lot of scholarship offers from many D1 and D2 schools based on
Beau's performance on and off of the field. All of his hard work is
paying off and we know that he will be successful regardless of where he
decides to play at the next level.

Without a doubt
Beau is a vital ingredient in the mix that is THE FREAK FACTORY.
